Where should the line between 'public' life and 'private' life be drawn?

 

These two are different. Private life is known to you and few people close to you. Our private life has a certain influence on our public life. The values we have will reflect on our actions.

Public life, on the other hand, is known to many people. Generally we don't want our private life known to many people. Public life depends on people accepting that they dont have a choice. That, much as you would like to make sure your grandfather receives every treatment known to medicine, you have to be fair and leave something for other peoples grandmothers. That, much as you dont want your children exposed to ideas you find repugnant, you have to negotiate as equals with people who love those ideas.  

Hence it is important we have a clean private life so that it will also show on our public life because we cannot be both at the same time.  The following are simple ways to protect your valuable personal information.

1.      Don't fill out ALL your social media profile

The more information you share online, the easier it's going to be for someone to get their hands on it. So better learn to be uncooperative sometimes.

2.     Do not share to anyone your social security number

Think twice about sharing your social security number with anyone, unless it's your bank, a credit bureau, a company that wants to do a background check.  

3. Set-up passwords on your devices

Set up your PC or your mobile phone to require a password when it wakes from sleep or boots up. Sure, you may trust the people who live in your house, but what if it was stolen or you lose it?

4. Use incognito when browsing

If you don't want anyone with physical access to your computer to see where you're hanging out online you should enable "incognito window," a setting available in each major web browser. It deletes cookies, temporary Internet files and browsing history after you close the window.

5. Keep your social network activity private

Check your social media accounts and make sure only friends can see what you're doing.

These are simple tips that might help your from bad guys lurking online and offline. Remember that once you become active online, especially once you become connected with the digital world, your privacy will be in sizzling hot demand. So, if you're a public figure or just anyone whose privacy is at high risk, better be cautious.
